Specs for LCJE Papers

There is no official formatting for LCJE papers.
However, for purposes of uniformity and convenience, we suggest the following guidelines:

  • 12 point Times Roman (or New Times Roman) font;
  • Single spaced;
  • Title of the paper along with your name and title (and ministry) at the top of thefirst page;
  • One inch margins at top and bottom; 1.25 inches left and right.
  • Pages numbered;
  • PDF format; and
  • Your name and email address at the end of the paper.For your reference, a sample paper appears on the next several pages. We haven’t proofread it for grammar or other technical issues; but it’s a fairly typical example of papers that are presented at an LCJE North American conference. Please note the footnoting and other features. This particular paper also reflects the spirit of respectful engagement that we have grown accustomed to within the LCJE family. Most of us feel strongly about our views, but at the same time we respect the right of others to disagree with us. You’ll find many other examples of papers at www.lcje.net/IndexofPapers2011.html, although they don’t necessarily follow our suggested formatting exactly. Rather than striving for perfect uniformity, the main things we’re going for are clarity, readability, and sourcing for any main points that may fall outside the realm of common knowledge. Sometimes the paper is longer than time allows for during a conference session, so in those cases the author will hit only the high points to stay within his/her time limitations. Also, some presenters read verbatim from their papers during their session while others prefer to speak more extemporaneously about their papers. If you get your paper to us 3-4 weeks prior to the conference, we can post it on our webpage so conference attendees can read it ahead of time and engage with you more intelligently after your session. We usually allow roughly 45 minutes for a session followed by 15 minutes for questions and answers from the audience. Email the PDF or Word DOC of your paper to: jimsibley@ymail.com.
